Finally finished. I have closed the third book a few days ago. This trilogy has been taking my time since Christmas, with more intense period of reading (and more quiet ones!). I got the first book recommended by a training-mate who suggested it as I am French and the story happens to be in "kind "of French-like place. Well took it in English (no translation available) and it took me a little while to understand really what this was about. Well here it is: a little girl is born with a red scarlett in her eye and it happens to be a mark from Kushiel one of the Gods revered in this story. Her destiny is to enjoy both pleasure and pain at once (i.e. not separated from each other). And the story continue that she will be raised to become a spy, expert in the bedchamber... Yapp! Nothing's better than confessions on a pillow. The first book was quite slow and it took a little while to get me started. However the end made me rush to buy the second tome. This one was quite a journey. I devoured it literally. And I can recommend to listen to "Buddha Bar IV" to it as it really create a special feeling to the story. I cannot listen to 11-Monsoon without thinking about the escape of the heroine, Phedre, from her prison while her protector, Jocelin, attempts to save her on his own. Tearful episode of the book really. This second part of the trilogy was finishing way too quick for my taste and therefore came the third and final book. Well this one was not as well written and the action was not that breathtaking (except for the period in Dargan and the attempt and success to get the unsaid name of God in South of Afrikka).
Description are sometimes too long and make the story a bit heavy to follow. When action is there, it is really well described however and close to taking your breath away ('til it finishes!).
I do not understand why the author changed the name of cities and countries when it clearly appears that the story takes place in France and countries around (Germany, UK, Turkey, Egypt among others). It would have been bringing much more to the story with fantasy names, or real ones, but not changes like this.
So for book 2 I would say a good 8/10, for the trilogy as a whole a fair 5/10.
